Lamar Suffering Less Than CBS, Clear Channel in Billboard Storm
By Jim Edwards | August 13th, 2009 @ 7:32 am
BNET bashed Lamar Advertising recently for turning away clients whose opinions it doesn’t like even while its revenues fall. But a comparison of Lamar and its competitors, CBS Outdoor* and Clear Channel Outdoor, shows that Lamar may be weathering the recessionary storm better than its larger foes. Check the numbers:

In 1994, I celebrated my 30th birthday. In those 30 years, I managed to produce three babies, one ex-husband, one AA in English, and zero employment prospects. Circling the drain of destitution, the reality of suddenly single parenthood inspired me to find new meaning in the word ambition. With few options available to me based on my measly AA, I took a job as a telemarketer setting appointments for a Life Insurance company. I hoped to get a position as an agent once I passed the state exam. It was the only job with a flexible schedule, so I resigned my shy self to becoming the best Life Insurance Telemarketer ever. It seemed like a good plan.

Book Review by Pamela Thompson
37Signal’s book, Getting Real, looks at web development projects from a fresh–and very interesting–perspective. This practical, no-nonsense guide to managing web application projects throws traditional project management conventions out the pie-in-the-sky-window, and replaces gantt charts with a “just get it done” philosophy. What I love about this book is that their simple, practical management philosophy can be applied to all areas of business. Not just for software developers, Getting Real is one of the best business management books I have read in a long while.
